VALDERAMA BACKS FALCAO
The Colombian football legend Carlos Valderrama has said that the Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao is the hero of the country right now, and he is expecting big things from the national team at the upcoming World Cup.
Colombia have emerged as one of the strongest teams in the South American continent primarily due to the presence of Radamel Falcao. The 26-year-old has terrorised defences in Europe for the last few seasons, while many regard him to be the best striker past the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Prior to Falcao, the 51-year-old Valderrama was regarded as the nation’s hero.
He has said in an interview given to FIFA that Falcao is achieving all the right things, which has transformed him into a national hero. Falcao has managed to lift the Europa league with two different teams in two successive seasons. He is now linked with a mega money move to Chelsea in the summer, with the latest betting from Unibet making Real Madrid the favourites to sign him in the summer.
He is only behind Ronaldo and Messi in the goalscoring charts of the Spanish league this season. Valderrama has also said that he is extremely satisfied with the performance of the manager Jose Pekerman, who took charge of the national team just over a year ago. Valderrama has said that the main objective is to reach the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
“Colombians as a whole, are very proud of what [Falcao] is achieving. He battles hard, scores goals and he’s the team’s figurehead. Before, personally, I couldn’t wait for the weekend to watch Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Now I look forward to seeing Falcao too. He’ll keep on scoring goals, he’s flying the flag for Colombian football at the moment and we’re going to have the pleasure of watching him at the next World Cup in Brazil,” said the Colombian legend.
