Ricardo Gareca’s future as the manager of the Peruvian national team looks bleak
Ricardo Gareca’s future as the manager of the Peruvian national team looks and out after several rumours have started about his impending departure following the recent defeats in the World Cup qualification games.
The national team suffered back-to-back defeats in the World Cup qualifying group. The bad run started with a 2-0 loss against Colombia and it was followed by a much more close encounter against Copa America champions Chile. Powered by the impressive Arsenal winger Alexis Sanchez, Chile secured a narrow 4-3 win. Yet, it has not been sufficient to prevent rumours about Gareca’s departure.
The Argentine was given the job only back in February and results have not been good enough since them. The latest losses puts the national team under a huge mountain as far as qualification to the World Cup is concerned. Peru are no longer regarded as one of the strong contenders from South America, but they would have been at least expecting to put up a fight. Antonio García Pye has confirmed that the manager will remain in charge of the national team despite these bad results. It will come as a major relief forGareca as he tries to turn around the situation.
The next matches for Peru will be against Paraguay and Brazil in the World Cup qualification. “It’s absurd, he speaks ill of us. We do not pass it over his head. If the opponent is beyond us, we have to congratulate him. I was surprised that it came out, but at no time has been no contact with them. Keep your head on straight, resist temptations and focus on our objective, which is to be champions Atletico Nacional,”said Garcia Pye. These matches will be tougher than ever and Peru only have limited time to turn around the bad form.
